Nobody Puts Romcoms In The Corner…I bet you can remember exactly what movie that’s from and what scene. It’s a play on words from one of my favourite scenes from the movie. (It’s still one of my favourite movies too.) Hint: The movie is “Dirty Dancing” and it’s when Baby is sitting with her parents and Johnny comes and grabs her and they do their big finale dance scene.
This is a cute romcom book about renacting and/or recreating romcom moments just like that one and said couple falls for each other. The rest of my review will be kinda spoilerish so if you don’t want to be spoiled, you better stop reading now.

Conveniently, the characters are named Harry and Sally, so of course, “When Harry Met Sally” is the first romcom they chose to renact. I know, it shocked me too. And what scene do they do??? The fake orgasm scene. (Is there any other from that movie?) They first meet when he’s forced to move out of his own house because he ex girlfriend is a squatter. I think he could’ve legally had her physically removed…but then again…how would Harry meet Sally? Meanwhile, Sally’s sister forced her to get a roommate because she moved in with her boyfriend, leaving poor Sally scrambling to pay rent.
Anyways, Harry moves in with Sally and he agrees to recreate these romcom scenes even though he’s never seen them. Harry’s not a believer in love or marriage or happily ever after because his parents are pros at laying the guilt trip and gaslighting. It’s completely understandable why he doesn’t believe in true love.
Fans and friends alike saw the chemistry between Harry and Sally. One friend of Sally’s cheered them on, while the other one didn’t. Sally made Harry watch the movies first, so he would know what the scene was about before filming. Things got hot and steamy eventually and somehow Harry is suddenly technologically inept because he forgot to erase the one video where they first had sex in the shower. Guess who releases said video online?? His ex. I still don’t understand why he would leave his phone somewhere where his ex would find it and not have it on his person. He was fixing the plumbing in his house and acted nonchalant about it. Personally, I would’ve made his ex pay for a plumber, but that’s just me.
Overall, it’s cute and predictable with lots of fluff. Kind of like how Sally is and her weird obsession with pink. (She has a pink couch!!) If you want a more serious story, you won’t find it here.
I gave this book 4 stars because while the story is predictable and fluffy, the memories the movies they chose to renact brought back lots of memories. It’s not a bad story either. Just some moments are kinda WTF?
Now I’m going to have to watch those movies again – thanks to this book for reminding me of how much I enjoyed them.
Thanks for reading!
