Extracted: Bitter Cold Consequences

Brrrr…is there a chill in the air or is it just another episode of Extracted On FOX? That’s right, it’s time to watch survivalists compete for money by freezing their butts off in the Canadian wilderness. Sounds like a fun time, eh?

I know I’m a week late with this recap. I am very behind on all of my recaps—due to being sick and unable to shake it off. Whatever this illness is (not Covid), it’s going around my work too.

Just for clarification, this is for Episode Six, Bitter Cold Consequences. This post will be a more detailed recap than they do at the beginning of the episode.

If you haven’t watched the episode yet, and you don’t want to be spoiled…please don’t scroll!

The episode begins by reminding us of how Polly took the biggest piece of steak and how the survivalists were about to suffer through the coldest night yet. Both Polly and Rhoman had nothing to keep warm because Katie’s sisters, Emily and Carly took their blanket and sleeping bag away—thanks to a power card. And how pissed off Rhoman’s and Polly’s families were. How can we forget about the fact there’s two beacons floating in the water with lights flashing too?

The next morning the survivalists are asking for food and more things to keep warm. Polly asks what she did to deserve having her sleeping bag taken away? Doug is enjoying Polly’s old sleeping bag, and Polly’s twin sister, Molly tells the screen “shut up” and wonders if Doug even cares about who the sleeping bag came from at all? Polly begins making a makeshift blanket with pine branches.

Emily and Carly feel the tension in HQ and it makes them feel awkward and anxious, but they’re happy they got a sleeping bag for Katie. Katie shows off her teeth. It looks like her gums are going bad—due to lack of food.

Survival Trial time! Each family picks a supply item for their loved one. Next, they have to write out instructions on how to find and collect three items on a resource grid. These items must be in a row. The first survivalist to collect three items in a row, will win the supply item their family picked out. The last person will have one of the items they already have taken away.

We see a few amusing moments when the survivalists fight their fears and attempt to collect items—only to miss.

Summer sees the beacon in the water and decides to risk everything to swim out to it in the middle of the lake.

Meanwhile, Luke has four items but none of them are in a row. Rhoman hopes there are other people who have less he does.

Summer makes it out to the beacon. She wins a supply drop. She has to strike a flare and say which item out of bearskin, sleeping pad or cheeseburger she wants. It will be delivered after the survival trial is over. Summer chooses the bearskin to keep warm.

Polly is the first to collect three items. The survival trial is over. She will receive a sleeping bag in her supply drop! Her family will make the somewhat tough decision to determine which one out of Amey, Rhoman and Summer (who had the fewest amount of items) to forfeit one of a sleeping bag, a blanket or a fire item. They end up choosing to take Summer’s blanket away, since she will have a bearskin to keep herself warm.

Summer is devastated. It was the only thing she didn’t want taken away. Polly’s family explains they chose Summer’s blanket because she had just received a bearskin. They apologize to her family. Amey’s and Rhoman’s family thank them for not choosing their family member. (Which is fine, except they did this in front of Summer’s family!)

The next day, Amey’s looking for food and finds a crawfish. Summer says she had a really hard night because she was so cold. Rhoman catches himself the biggest fish yet. Katie’s gums are looking even worse than before. Molly (Polly’s sister) is a dental hygienist or something and tells the girls (Emily and Carly) that it’s not good if the gums turn grey, that means there’s decay. I think Molly took a little bit of glee in horrifying the girls about Katie’s gums.

Summer tries to light a fire again and again and finally gives up. She asks to be extracted. Her mother does, much to her brother’s dismay. Summer’s sorry for letting them down, but she can’t do it anymore. They say their goodbyes at HQ, Summer is picked up by a boat, then they’re reunited. I’m surprised she lasted as long as she did to be honest.

Later on it starts to rain. The survivalists try to fix their shelters at the last minute, making sure they’ll keep them dry. But for some, their shelters get destroyed. There’s too much rain. Amey, Katie and RJ are practically begging for the rain to stop.

Daniel leaves HQ to wake up David his brother to tell him how three people are begging to go home. Meanwhile, Makala’s telling her sister how Daniel left the HQ in a happy mood. Tanisha thinks they’re celebrating. (Close, but not quite.)

The episode ends with the rain coming down…

Now you’re all caught up for tonight! It looks like Doug is going to have a close encounter with a bear. RJ’s family is going to have another run in with Luke’s family. I hope Makala takes names and kicks ass! 💪🏻
