Let me start off this recap by saying that if you love competitive, compelling drama then you should be watching this season of Extracted — if you haven’t already.
With each episode we’re getting to know the competitors more and more. We’re seeing rivalries form, alliances named, strategies discussed…this show could become as popular as Survivor — if given the chance. I’m just saying…
I hope you’re not afraid of the dark because the latest episode is titled “The Longest Night” for a very good reason.
As usual I speak spoilers…so if you don’t want to know, don’t look below!

The episode begins with Amey’s family deciding whether or not they should extract her. She’s at dangerous levels of dehydration, because she can’t build a fire in order to boil water. She’s also very cold and might have hypothermia. Skyler says they need to be more cutthroat. She’s suffering but she’s not quitting so they can’t.

Amey is so thirsty she’s contemplating to either quit or drink lake water without boiling it. Please don’t do that…last season somebody got really sick because they didn’t boil the lake water first.

Amey’s not alone in her suffering. RJ’s running out of matches. His knee hurts like hell and he’s cold. Even Doug doesn’t think he can go any further without eating. He needs food — like today.

We find out Doug opened up a pizza place for his sons to take over, but the sons had problems with leading so he sold the place. His sons want to make it up to him.

There’s going to be a supply drop later that day. Each team picks one item out of the supply room. The catch? Only five survivalists will receive these items, leaving four teams receiving nothing. The teams at HQ have to decide unanimously within three minutes which five survivalists will receive these supplies.
Polly’s family decides to step out because there’s others who don’t have fire yet. Katie’s family also steps out. Sandra and Nina step back so they stay out of the crosshairs, letting the other teams target each other.

Things get heated between Luke’s brothers and Doug’s sons. Luke’s brothers relented after a lot of arguing and time run off the clock. They make a “deal” for the next supply drop that Luke’s family will go into the supply room early. I put “deal” in quotes because Doug’s family say they’re not going to honour it. Bring on the messy!

As you can see in the image above…the survivalists who will receive their items are; Amey, Doug, RJ, Rhoman and Summer. The survivalists not receiving their items are; Polly, Katie, Eric and Luke.
It’s a mix of joy and sadness as the families at HQ watch their loved ones receive their crates.

Polly finds her crate empty and tells us her story about battling cancer three years ago. She’s not sure if her fifty-nine year old body will take much more of this.
Rhoman, RJ and Amey get their fires going, while Summer is still struggling. Amey’s uncle/father celebrates.

First fire…now fish! Rhoman catches the first fish out of all the survivalists. Therefore, his family gets an advantage.

They go to the supply room. They get a power card. The Time Out Power Card. With this card, they can exile a team from HQ for four hours. That team will not be able to watch or listen to their survivalist during that time. They decide not to tell anyone about it. When the others asked, they tell them they’re not allowed to talk about it.
The next Survival Trial will take place in the dark. The families at HQ have to build a manual battery charger (or conduit), then manually charge the batteries by cranking the conduit, which will power the survivalists’ lanterns.

The survivalists have to hike through the forest in the dark with the help of their lanterns, a compass, a map, and a note from their families — to a supply drop where they’ll receive some protein. When their battery dies, if they can’t find their way home in the dark, they’ll be stuck in the darkness until morning, unprotected from wildlife and the elements.
The families at HQ have sixty minutes to put the charger together, then crank it to charge the batteries as full as they can. They write the survivalists a note to help them navigate.
Amey’s uncle/father dropped their charger and it broke. They kept trying, but couldn’t get it fixed in time. They warn her in her note to not go to out to find the supply crate, but she says she doesn’t care, don’t worry she’ll be careful. 😬
The survivalists with the highest percentage of battery life to lowest are; Luke, Eric, Polly, Summer, Doug, Rhoman, Katie, RJ and Amey. Check out the gallery above to see their percentages.

When they get to the supply crates, they find their protein is a grouse. It wouldn’t be bad if they had plucked the feathers off first. 🤢🤮 (I’m grossed out.) Does anybody else think it’s weird how gross and grouse have similar letters?

We find Eric running around in circles. He keeps going back to the same tree again and again, until he finally wonders if he took a wrong turn. Ya think? Sandra and Nina are stressed watching him. Earlier, we find out Nina’s note to Eric isn’t correct. This stresses Sandra out even more.
An old friend returns (or maybe a relative). A bear gets close enough to Summer, you can hear the bear making a roaring sound near her. She searches the forest with her lantern, but the bear must’ve continued on because we don’t see it again. Her family says to keep going. She must’ve heard them telepathically because she does. It was scary and intense for a moment though.

Katie’s battery is dangerously low. She’s starting to have a panic attack. She makes it back to camp, so it subsides.
Polly, Amey, Rhoman, and Summer make it back to their respective camps, much to everyone’s relief.
Meanwhile, Doug’s battery runs out. Luke did something and said what we heard was his knee. I’m not sure exactly what happened but I’m assuming he fell and hurt his knee.
RJ is struggling because of his knee, and then his battery dies. Makala is worried because of the bears out there. She thinks it’ll be harder to keep him in this game, than to extract him.
That’s where they leave us, but not before they show us how the longest night continues next week. They weren’t kidding when they said it’d be long. The preview for next week looks pretty explosive too.
