The Bachelor Season 29 Episode 4 Recap

Hey everyone! It’s that time of week again! This week’s episode of The Bachelor is a doozy!

WARNING: if you haven’t watched the episode yet and don’t want to know what happened, please don’t read any further! This post contains spoilers!

The episode begins with Rose crying to Carolina about how she backstabbed her and did her dirty. Carolina doesn’t feel like she did.

You did me dirrrrrrty! ~ Rose

The next morning the rest of the women complained about how it was the prom from hell. Carolina monopolized Grant’s time when she threw Rose under the bus. The rest of the women felt like they never had any time with Grant because it was the Carolina show.

The prom was not proming. ~ Sarafiena

Carolina says at least she got clarity.

Jesse arrives saying there’s not going to be any dates because Grant’s not in L.A. In fact, he’s not even in the country!

He’s probably had enough of the drama too. Oh wait…nevermind. The ladies get to pack their bags…they’re going to Madrid, Spain!

Grant says he’s been to Madrid often because he’s played basketball there. He loves the city, the culture and can’t wait to explore romantic connections with the ten ladies who are left.

The ladies are drinking sangrias when Grant shows up. He’s going to take Dina out for a one-on-one date. They’re going to live like the locals on their date.

The date begins with Grant and Dina playing soccer in the middle of the street with some kids. Next, they join in with a group of older couples in costumes who are dancing.

They come to a wishing wall where people write what they wish for on post-it notes and stick them onto the wall.

Lastly, they climb into a rowboat and paddle on the water. Later, they go out for dinner where they’re serenaded by Spanish performers. Dina’s date ends with a rose and a kiss!

Carolina talks about how she feels like she hasn’t had enough one on one time. Litia feels like Carolina has had the most one on one time with Grant out of any of the other girls. Carolina feels like it’s weird having a connection but has to share Grant with the others and watch their interactions. It makes her unsure.

Remember how I said Zoe was going to be the drama queen and the villain of the season…? Well, I changed my mind. Carolina is definitely the villain of the season. Zoe is actually a sweetheart who’s introverted. The other women have seemed to have warmed up to Zoe too.

A note arrives. It’s time for a group date. Everyone else is going – except for Sarafiena who gets to have a one-on-one date.

The group date involves donkeys. They ride through the streets of Chinchon on them.

Parisa’s donkey has bad gas. 🤭😭

Next, they go to meet a matadora. She’s the first female in her family to carry on the long time family tradition. She teaches the women on what to do.

The ladies have to ride a mechanical bull. They are competing for some alone time with Grant.

Zoe wins!! They go up on the rooftop and watch the sunset. Zoe must have a thing for rooftops. Zoe and Grant always end up on rooftops it seems.

In the evening, Grant gives Parisa some rocks because she likes rocks. She finds the gesture romantic.

What in the rock?

Rose hopes they can get past what happened last week with Carolina. Grant hopes so too.

Zoe tells Grant about her upbringing. She and her sister were the only black people in her community. Nobody wanted to date her or get to know her. She’s in tears. Grant thanks her for opening up to him. He can relate as a black man.

Carolina tells Juliana she really likes Grant but she hardly knows him. Juliana pulls her aside, away from the other women and tells her how she finds what she’s said about her uncertainties about Grant unsettling and leaves a sour taste in everyone’s mouths. If she felt that unsure, why doesn’t she pack her bags and leave?

Carolina tells her that she never asked her for her opinion. It’s perfectly natural to have doubts after knowing him in such a small amount of time.

Juliana tells her to choose her words carefully and she’ll do the same.

“Okay…cool.”

Juliana says Carolina can pack up and go whenever she feels like it if she’s that uncomfortable with Grant. They return to the others.

The others confront Carolina about her insecurities about Grant.

Carolina starts to cry, especially after Grant shows up to hand out the group date rose. Grant leaves the room with Carolina so they can discuss how she’s feeling in private. 🙄 He tries to reassure her. He’s there for her and is working through the process too.

After their convo ends, Grant tells the rest of the girls he has to think about some things so he won’t be handing out the group date rose after all.

Carolina says she’s not to blame for the date being cut short. She didn’t bring all of this up. She’ll just keep on, keeping on.

Grant and Sarafiena go on their one-on-one date. They’re going to bungee jump off a bridge. It’s raining. Is this even safe? As if it’s any safer when it’s sunny? 🤨

What is up with all of these dates involving heights?!?! Whose sick idea is this? Grant says he’s scared of heights too. I’m scared of heights and you wouldn’t catch me near this bridge.

They have a dinner for two. Sarafiena tells him about the advice she got from her mom. She grew up with a single mom, and she missed out on a lot of things. She’s committed to this, and jokes about how she jumped off a bridge for him, in the pouring rain too. Grant gives her the other one-on-one rose. 🌹 They kiss.

And now for the cocktail party…Grant pulls Juliana aside to get her side of the story. Juliana tells Grant about how ungrateful and unhappy Carolina came off to the rest of them. She points out how the rest of the women would die to be in Carolina’s position.

Grant tells her, that’s hard to hear. He appreciates her for speaking up. Then he kisses her. He says this thing with Carolina bothers him. He feels like it’s not really mature.

Grant talks to Carolina about why she feels like she does. Basically, he tells her to talk to him about how she feels and they can work through it together. Carolina is worried she won’t get a rose now.

Speaking of Rose, she feels like the night has revolved around Carolina. She’s over it.

Back to the beginning scene. Rose tells Carolina about how her actions really f*#ked her over, in a big way. She feels like she’s been sabotaged. She thought she confided in Carolina in confidence. She would’ve never done that.

Carolina apologizes. She didn’t mean to do that.

You backstabbed me! You did me dirrrrrty. ~ Rose

Rose talks to Grant. He agrees that situation put a stint into their relationship. Rose tells Grant that’s why it’s in her best interest to go home. He respects her decision. He escorts her out to a waiting vehicle.

Meanwhile, the other women agree. Carolina screwed up Rose’s relationship with Grant and this is becoming the Carolina show.

At the rose ceremony Grant addresses the ladies. He tells them Rose left. He reminds them he’s not the only one making decisions. They can decide too. The rest of the rose ceremony is pretty predictable. From the order of how the roses are handed out, to who the last women are.

Of course it’s down to the last rose and there’s three women left. Carolina receives the final rose because they’ve got to keep the drama.

Say goodbye to rock-loving cat lady, Parisa and kid-crazy Natalie.

But don’t worry. Love is still out there for both. Parisa is going to go home and cuddle her cat, Sonny.

That’s it for this week! Next week they’re heading for Scotland!
